Black Dynamite

I don’t really need an excuse to see a Michael Jai White film, so nothing is going to keep me away from this one. It’s directed by Scott Sanders who directed Thick as Thieves, which I think is one of the funniest movies ever made.
Synopsis
When “The Man” murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, BLACK DYNAMITE is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House. Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) stars as BLACK DYNAMITE, a gun-toting, nunchuck-wielding, ladies man and soul brother. Written and directed by Scott Sanders (Thick as Thieves), BLACK DYNAMITE also stars Tommy Davidson, Nicole Sullivan, Bokeem Woodbine, Arsenio Hall and John Salley.

CollapseYou know I’m all about the conspiracy stuff, so I have to see this one.Synopsis:
In “Collapse,” Director Chris Smith stylistically departs from his past films by interviewing Michael Ruppert in a format that recalls the work of Errol Morris and Spalding Gray. Sitting in a room that looks like a bunker, Ruppert recounts his career as a radical thinker and spells out the crises he sees ahead. He draws upon the same news reports and data available to any Internet user, but he applies a unique interpretation. While other experts debate this issue in measured tones, Ruppert doesn’t hold back at sounding an alarm. He portrays a future that resembles apocalyptic science fiction.
Update:
This was as good as I hoped it would be. It got a little depressing at the end with Smith’s prediction that this is the end for us, but overall I really liked it.
Red CliffI guess it’s not really a new film but it’s going to hit the big screen in the US on November 20, 2009.Synopsis:
Legendary action cinema master John Woo and international superstar Tony Leung reunite for the first time since the 1992 classic HARD BOILED with this epic historical drama set based on a legendary 208 A.D. battle that heralded the end of the Han Dynasty. A massive hit in Asia and the most expensive Asian film production of all time, RED CLIFF is a breathtaking war epic that marks the triumphant return of John Woo.
Update:
What an incredibly beautiful movie, with lots of beautiful action and lots of beautiful men (like Takeshi Kaneshiro from Hero). John Woo is usually good at action but this movie is epic. I would not be a blasphemer for mentioning this movie in the same breath as Ran. This DVD will not come out soon enough for me. If the US version is released with subtitles, don’t let that deter you from seeing this masterpiece.
WolfmanThis is one of those movies where you hear Benecio Del Torocast as the Wolfman and you’re like, yeah, I could see that. The previews look great and Benecio has great backup in the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving. It could be bad, but I kinda doubt it.Synopsis:
Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.
EndgameThis is the latest Chiwetel Ejioforby the makers of Vantage Point, which I thought was exceptional. It looks to have a good supporting cast and nowadays that’s good enough for me.Synopsis:
South Africa, 1985. While the country is under siege, sanctions are biting, Mandela’s imprisonment is an international cause celebré, and the ANC guerrilla terrorist attacks are escalating. Every day the country is more ungovernable as it plunges towards the apocalypse of a race war. In saner moments everyone knows the vile apartheid regime is doomed but will the transition to democracy be peaceful or bloody?
Update:
There was a lot of great acting in this movie. I would have enjoyed it more if it weren’t such a crappy subject. Everyone did such a solid job though, that you have to recommend the movie.
Boondock Saints II: All Saints DayI enjoyed the 1st Boondock Saints and don’t really see how this one could go too wrong. Plus this one has that fool Billy Connollyand Clifton Collins.Synopsis:
The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is the much-anticipated sequel to the indie cult classic, The Boondock Saints. The film is the continuation of writer/director Troy Duffy’s tough, stylized cutting edge saga of the MacManus brothers (Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery). The two have been in deep hiding with their father, Il Duce (Billy Connolly), in the quiet valleys of Ireland, far removed from their former vigilante lives. When word comes that a beloved priest has been killed by sinister forces from deep within the mob, the brothers return to Boston to mount a violent and bloody crusade to bring justice to those responsible.
TakersI saw this poster in the theatre when I sent to see Zombieland, but they didn’t show a preview. Idris Elbain this is enough for me but they also added TI and Zoe Saldano. One would think that Michael Ealy would be a plus but he still owes me for sitting through now one, but two seasons of that travesty, Sleeper Cell.Synopsis:
TAKERS, directed by John Luessenhop, revolves around a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case.
The CraziesI haven’t been doing too good with remakes lately, but sometimes you can’t help yourself. This is a remake of a George Romero classic and stars one of my secret loves, Timothy Olyphant (from Deadwood). I’m hoping for something at least as good as Slither.Synopsis:
A husband and wife in a small Midwestern town find themselves battling for survival as their friends and family descend into madness in The Crazies. A mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers and the authorities leave the uninfected to their certain doom in this terrifying reinvention of the George Romero horror classic.
The MinistersWhat could be better than a movie starring John Leguizamo? I’m hoping a movie starring two John Leguizamo’s, Harvey Keitel and Wanda De Jesus.:)
Synopsis:
Thirteen years after her father was slain and the only evidence left at the crime scene was a pamphlet for a Secret shrouded religious order known as “The Ministers”, a New York City homicide detective sets out to discover the truth behind her father’s gruesome death, but unwittingly becomes involved with one of his killers.
Update:
This was a little disappointing and I’m not sure why. I might have to watch it again to see why I didn’t like it more.
